Happy New Year! And still eating chocolate……

Oh my goodness but I have eaten a lot of chocolate and don’t feel like eating it again in a hurry!
However, others are not feeling this way at all and I have a party to cook for tomorrow who seem very happy to keep tucking in.
They avoided all my tentative offers of light fare and today I have made chocolate and pear tart which they will be having with vanilla ice cream – home made of course. It was a bit steered by me in truth as I knew I had an open bag of ground almonds, half a bag of ground hazelnuts and a bowl of pears which would be just perfect by tomorrow. A bowl of perfect pears is not an easy achievement in itself but 2 weeks in my pantry seems to be just the right ripening time.IMG_0442


here is the recipe
Take some shortcrust pastry and blind bake it for 12 – 15 minutes.
Melt 200g dark choc
Make a paste with 125g butter, 100g sugar (I mixed brown with caster) stir in 125g of ground nuts and beat in a couple of eggs.
mix in the choc and spread it onto the baked flan case. Peel and quarter 3 or 4 pears and push them into the paste. Bake at 160degrees for about 40 minutes.

I often don’t have that much ground almond lying around in which case I pad it out with flour. Of course if you happen to have a ball of marzipan going hard in the fridge do feel good about using it!

Tomorrow I shall reheat it gently and serve it when it is warm but not too hot.
